Viva la Food Revolution!
Thanks to shows like Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, awareness about what kids are eating at school is increasing drastically. The county I teach in provides very processed breakfasts and lunches to our students. However, through a series of very fortunate events I was able to get an organic garden put in at my elementary school. Through word of mouth, I heard that State Senator Curt Thompson was interested in funding school gardens. Lucky for me, he is the senator for my school’s district. Several dozen phone calls, emails, and meetings later we have our garden! It was amazing to watch all of the excitement from teachers and students as everything went into place. I am so happy to have met a politician who cares about such important issues and who follows through with promises! Thank you, Senator Thompson! Thanks to Farmer D Organics for building the beautiful raised beds, rich soil, and organic veggie seedlings. We’ve still got a lot of work to do, but this is an inspiring beginning!

You are awesome to help us get this organic garden started!!! I can not wait to reap the benefits and have the students understand where “real” food comes from and not a plastic wrapped breakfast sandwich or heat and serve pizza! I understand that our cafeterias are substidized by the government but the government can provide fresh/frozen ingredients to make nutritious breakfasts and lunches!!! I said this b/f Jamie Oliver came along – he is just making it happen!
How wonderful to have gardens like that!
Wow, only two weeks and our plants look enormous! The kids are so excited!
